10 THINGS TO DO TO START THE SCHOOL YEAR RIGHT

1. Join the Sligo Creek Elementary School (SCES) PTA Listserv. To subscribe, send an email to sligocreek-subscribe@groups.io. If you're on Facebook, join our Facebook group here.

2.  Assist your student(s) with their summer reading:  English Summer Reading Log | French Summer Reading Log |  K-2 English BINGO |  K-2 French BINGO |  3-5 English BINGO |  3-5 French BINGO

3. Replenish your student's face mask supply. Face masks will be required in MCPS buildings for the 2021-2022 school year, regardless of vaccination status. It helps to put a few extra masks in backpacks in case the one your child wears to school gets wet or dirty throughout the day. Order soon! Some manufacturers are delayed in shipping or low in inventory.

4.  Link your calendars with the SCES PTA and MCPS calendars and sign up for AlertMCPS for weather-related delays, closings, and other operational messages.

5.  Meet SCES students, families, and staff at one or more of these events!

August 27 - Open House for all grades from 2:30 PM – 3:00 PM
September 2 - Back-to-School Night for all grades from 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM
Incoming kindergarten families: plan to attend the kindergarten orientation on Friday, August 20, and a playdate on August 21 at 10 AM or August 25 at 5 PM.
Rising first graders: attend a playdate on the school playground on August 22 at 10 AM or August 24 at 5 PM.

6.  Gather your back-to-school supplies. SY21-22 Supply Lists are coming soon. Please contact Ms. Hegerich, our school guidance counselor, at Karen_H_Thomas@mcpsmd.org if you need school supplies or other resources this year.

7.  Attend the first PTA meeting on September 9, 2021!*

8.  Sign-up to receive the weekly PTA e-newsletter.

9.  Include or update your information in the PTA Directory.

10.  Join SCES PTA for the 2021-2022 school year! Our caregivers--parents, grandparents, teachers, staff, and families of all varieties--are extraordinary. Be a part of supporting and building our SCES community. Your annual dues help to make SCES an even better place for our kids.

(One thing you DO NOT need to do this year is top off your school cafeteria account. For the 2021-2022 year, school meals will continue to be free for everyone!)

* PTA meetings are typically the first Tuesday of every month. Our September meeting shifted to Thursday, Sept. 9 due to Rosh Hashanah. We're waiting for guidance on whether PTA meetings will be in-person this year or conducted entirely via Zoom. Regardless of whether an in-person option happens, we plan to offer a Zoom option as well. We're not sure how this will work since we may be holding the in-person meetings outdoors, but we'll see how it all shakes out in a month!
