The PTA has many open positions for the 2018-19 school year. We have a wonderful and vibrant parent community at Sligo Creek Elementary School and we invite ALL parents to be apart of it. It takes many volunteers to make all of our programs and activities possible. We encourage parents to participate and help where you are able. If you aren’t sure what role fits you but are willing to lend any of your time and talent, please reach-out, the entire community benefits - kids, teachers, parents and the school. Please consider helping with one of these opportunities. The PTA leadership team will share information from previous years, budget allocation, and help get you started.
Anyone who would like to volunteer at the school in any capacity that puts in your direct contact with students (e.g., field trips, recess/lunch, in-classroom help), you must complete the MCPS volunteer training on child abuse and neglect. The link can be found here: https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/
Click on the "Online training for volunteers" button. It is a video training with some questions, and should only take about 30 minutes of your time.
Teacher Appreciation Organizer
This is one of our most popular programs and we need someone to help organize the events throughout the year. There are many committee members who are willing to help the new leader for this much loved project.
Translation Team Members
We are seeking bilingual parents who can translate PTA core documents to Spanish. Translation volunteering is managed on a rotation schedule to make sure everyone is able to contribute equally. Document translations are usually submitted to the translation team coordinator on the week prior to the Friday folder when it is required. This is a volunteering position that you can schedule to suit your availability and does not require time at the school.
Grade 3-5 Social Organizer
Several parents work together to organize this fun event. Do you like to plan parties? Help make a special night for our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders with food, music and some activities! This event is a one-time event and the work can be done on nights and weekends.
Cultural Arts Committee
The chair arranges for cultural arts performance a few times a year, including Hispanic Heritage Month, Black History Month, Women’s History Month and more.
Work evenings and on weekends to update the PTA website.
We are looking for a parent to coordinate volunteers. This job is mainly to connect people who are willing to give some time to the school with the ways the PTA and school need help. This position would be active throughout the year, and could be done on nights and weekends. This would be a great position to share with a friend.
Purple Line Liaison
Work with PTA Board, school administration and other community groups to maintain current information on Purple Line construction and its impact on SCES.
Grades K-2 Social
Several parents work together to organize this fun event. Do you like to plan parties? Help make a special night for our K-2 students with food, music and some activities!
The PTA is seeking a parent volunteer to help with the yearbook in the Spring. In the past, teachers have volunteered their time to make the yearbook possible. We need a parent to help coordinate with school staff to collect photos throughout the year, layout pages and be creative in capturing the activities during the school year! You will also help generate orders and distribute the yearbooks before the end of the year.
Food Drive Coordinator
Coordinate collection of non perishable food for donation to Kids Helping Kids campaign. The collection point will be outside the office and most of the work will be advertising and coordinating the pick with the campaign.
