Volunteering

PTA Executive Committee, Board, and Committee Chairs

The PTA has open committee positions and is always looking for next year's board members! We have a wonderful and vibrant parent community at Sligo Creek Elementary School and we invite ALL parents to be apart of it. It takes many volunteers to make all of our programs and activities possible. We encourage parents to participate and help where you are able. If you aren’t sure what role fits you but are willing to lend any of your time and talent, please reach-out, the entire community benefits - kids, teachers, parents and the school. Please consider helping with one of these opportunities. The PTA leadership team will share information from previous years, budget allocation, and help get you started.

Please contact the PTA President (president@scespta.org) or any board member/committee chair if you are interested or have any questions.

MCPS ONLINE Volunteer TRAINING

Please review MCPS's Child Abuse and Neglect reporting guidelines and training.

MCPS values the volunteers who work in our schools to enrich our students’ experiences. As a community, we are mindful of our shared responsibility to create safe, nurturing environments for our students. This training provides guidance for volunteers to help keep students safe.

While MCPS encourages all community members to engage in this important informative training, all volunteers who regularly support schools and students and those who attend field trips must complete the online module, Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect training for volunteers and contractors. This training requirement also applies to volunteers who regularly support school-sponsored activities. However, this requirement does not apply to individuals who support at large events or those who assist at one-time events under supervision of school staff members. The following are examples of the types of activities that do not require completion of the volunteer training (not an exhaustive list): guest readers and speakers in classrooms where they will be supervised by a MCPS employee; parent/guardians or other relatives who are observing or supporting a celebration (e.g., a parade) or helping with a class party, and parent/guardians staffing concessions and ticket booths at large events.

You can access the training through ParentVue. Once logged in, click on "Parent Resources" then "myMCPS Classroom". The training is found on the Resources tab and is called "Volunteer Training".
