PTA Meeting - Tuesday, May 7 at 7 PM | The SCES media center

We'll meet in-person at the Sligo Creek Media Center this coming Tuesday at 7 PM to vote on a budget amendment, talk end-of-year everything--5th grade promotion, book share, STEAM Fair, Field Day, Hershey Park, SCEF/Outdoor Classroom--and perhaps most importantly, we'll see who from our community steps forward to ensure that the PTA is around next year.  

The following executive board positions are open for the 2024-25 School Year:

  • President
  • Treasurer
  • Secretary
  • Events Vice President (could also be co-VPs, this would be fun to do with a friend)
  • Communications Vice President (Helen Rubeiz is currently serving as co-VP and is able to do another year; however, she asks for a co-VP to help her please)

READING RAINBOW READ-A-THON

We hope you have had a great time getting in extra reading these past 10 days!  Turn in your packets in on May 1st if you want to be eligible for prizes at the celebration on Friday May 3rd with book and kindle prizes!.

Gather your donations and submit those as well. For donations you can send in via VENMO or you can use Zelle: president@sligocreekef.org. 

Other ways to help: VOLUNTEER! Join the SCEF Board or volunteer with Mitch. Is GRANT WRITING a skill you have? Help find and write grants with Mitch to bring in funds that way. ADVOCATE to your teachers to use this incredible resource!!

We are excited to celebrate reading and the outdoor classroom on Friday in the outdoor classroom! 

SCES Spring Social -THANK YOU!

Thank you for all who came out to the Spring Social on Friday! It was a great turnout and such a fun way to welcome Spring with new and old friends at Sligo Creek. Kids particularly loved the bounce houses, yummy food trucks, and seeing all their friends on the playground! 


An extra huge Thank You to Vero Elizalde, John Kent and all the other volunteers who made this event happen!

Field Day - May 16-17

Looking for Field Day Volunteers!

Field day is scheduled for May 16th (K-2) and May 17th (Gr 3-5). SCES is looking for parent volunteers to help throughout the event. If you are interested, please be in contact with Mr. Hodos directly, Jack_D_Hodos@mcpsmd.org.

SCES is always looking for parent volunteers!

If you are interested in volunteering at Sligo Creek during lunch, recess, or in the main office, please visit the MCPS website for steps on becoming a MCPS volunteer, and notify Lisa Brooks at Lisa_L_Brooks@mcpsmd.org after completing the process. Parents are always welcome and appreciated!!!! 

Ms. Nesmith informed us that they are also happy to have volunteers in the classroom.  If you are interested in this, please check first with your child's teacher.  Since you will be in the classroom with the teacher, you do not have to complete all the steps to volunteer.

June Book Share- Donate your books now!

It's time to donate your gently used children's books to the SCES Book Share that will take place this June!

Every spring we give away books to all Sligo Creek Elementary students, and those books come largely from our SCES families. If you have books appropriate for elementary-aged students (in English or French!!), please contact Carrie Callaghan (carecalla@gmail.com) to arrange for drop off at her house near the school. Or you can hang onto the books until May when we will have donation bins placed in the school.

*Please no religious books, which includes books about Christmas, Easter, Hanukah, etc.
