Winter Chorus / Dance Concert

SCES will be holding the Winter Chorus / Dance Concert on December 15. There will be two performances by the fourth and fifth grade students, once at 2:00 for the students and again at 7:00 for families and community members. Students who are performing in the chorus should wear white tops with dark bottoms and dark shoes while dancers should be dressed in all black. The concert will be recorded. There will be ample room in the gym for everyone who wishes to attend.

The Antiracism Committee's monthly meeting will be on December 19 at 8:00 p.m. on Zoom.

NAACP / PTA Meet and Greet Monday at 9:15 AM

Our Sligo Creek Elementary School NAACP representative Gladys Chi is hosting a Meet & Greet on Monday, Dec. 12 at 9:15 AM at school. If you have a few minutes after drop-off on Monday morning, please stop by the media center to connect and enjoy some light refreshments. 


Gladys, Ms. Nesmith and the PTA would love to hear about your year at SCES so far. 


If you can't drop in on Monday but would like to connect with Gladys, please email her at naacp@scespta.org. 

Holiday Staff Gifts

Room parents/guardians in each class are, in an effort to show appreciation for all the amazing staff at SCES, coordinating contribution drives with the other families in the classroom. While contributions are appreciated, there is no absolutely no obligation to donate. In addition to supporting gifts for the teachers, each class is also paired with two additional staff members to ensure recognition is provided to the entire SCES staff. If you have questions, please contact your room parent/guardian.

Volunteering In SCES

School operations are greatly assisted by the volunteer efforts of parents and guardians during the school day. Support for lunch, recess, and the main office is always appreciated. Please drop in when you can, just make sure to sign in at the main office. Child abuse and neglect training is also required and can be conducted online at https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/childabuseandneglect/#Volunteer. Ms. Nesmith will also host training in January.

The Book Fair was an overwhelming success. A huge thank you to all who volunteered, members of the Book Fair Committee, and especially Meghan Conaghan and Jennifer Meyer for their coordination.

MCCPTA Special Education Committee Overview

At the November PTA meeting, Cara Fletcher was helpful in providing an overview of the role the MCCPTA Special Education Committee plays in advocating for our families. She is happy to be in touch with anyone interested in the Special Education liaison role or other concerns and can be emailed at carafletcher@me.com.  The meeting was recorded, if anyone would like to hear what she said please contact president@scespta.org for a copy of the recording.
