Walk to School Day

Join hundreds of students and parents in Montgomery County in celebrating International Walk to School Day on Wednesday, October 6.

Walking and biking to school are great ways to promote health, identify safe routes for walking and biking, and improve air quality. International Walk to School Day is a great opportunity for you to help your child learn and practice safe walking or biking skills.

If you live too far from school to walk, drive part of the distance, then park and walk the rest of the way! Be sure to take a family photo of your adventure around your neighborhood! Send photos to communications@scespta.org and look for your picture in the upcoming PTA newsletter.

Check out https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/DOT-PedSafety/srts/students.html for tips on walking and biking safety.

The Salamander Stride is BACK!

We're SO excited to have a more traditional, in-person Salamander Stride this year, with some modifications to keep the event safe and fun for everyone. Lace up your Striding shoes and get ready for the fun on
Friday, October 22 at the SSIMS track!

Ms. Nesmith is working with us to determine the time frame of the run for each grade level. As soon as we can update that information on the website we will! And please keep your eyes out for a Stride packet in the Friday Folders.

What is the Salamander Stride?

It’s a Fun Run for the whole school and a fundraiser for the PTA. The Stride is a non-competitive event that encourages physical activity and aligns with the school’s purpose of educating and celebrating the kids. It is also a great community event for students, teachers, and administrators—and, of course, parents, guardians, and family members who are able to support our students.

In the best news of the week, Mr. B (Mr. Brinson, our gym teacher known around the world, or at least the metro DC area) will be back to emcee the Stride! Anyone who's experienced his exuberant and joyful presence at a 'Stride knows that the event just got about 1,000 times better with this news.

How will the Salamander Stride raise money for the PTA?

Students will seek pledges from family, friends, and neighbors to achieve their fitness goal—be it a mile or beyond. Our successful Stride fundraising history has enabled us to eliminate the need for other PTA fundraisers, like selling wrapping paper and cookie dough.

How can I make a pledge?

It’s easy to set up a pledge page or make a donation through the PTA website, just look for a link under FORMS to set up your child's page (and remember to update their grade/join the PTA while you are there). You can also record cash/check donations made out to SCES PTA.
