MCPS Virtual vs In-Person Parent Choice Survey

The Montgomery County Board of Education has tentatively approved Montgomery County Public Schools’ (MCPS’) framework for the phased return of students to in-person learning. A survey is now open for parents to indicate if they want their child to remain exclusively in a virtual learning environment or engage in a combination of in-person and virtual instruction.

If you have already responded and DID NOT REALIZE that this was tentatively committing your child(ren) to that selection, you can resubmit a new response up until Dec. 3rd. Any family that does not make a selection will automatically default to the virtual-only experience.

SCES Staff Giving Tree

The Giving Tree is a wish list of items requested by our teachers and staff.

Particularly during this year of technology needs (microphones, speakers and ring lights oh my!) our SCES staff could use your help to ensure they're well situated to teach via Zoom. Please take a moment to grant a wish, purchase the item and have it delivered to school as a small way to say “we appreciate you and all that you're doing!”

Currently, the list reflects requests from kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade teachers and staff, as well as the music department. Additional requests will be added as we receive that information.

MCPS Equity Hubs

The Children’s Opportunity Fund and the Black and Brown Coalition for Educational Equity and Excellence are coordinating low-cost childcare and distance learning support for MCPS students at facilities across the county. Priority is given to low-income, kindergarten through 5th grade students, and students needing more assistance with virtual learning. Learn more at EquityHubs.org or by phone at 240-200-4999.

Seeking Staff Appreciation Committee Chair

We have so many reasons to appreciate SCES staff!

They're doing an amazing job of learning to teach and connect with our students in new ways, and the PTA needs a creative, energetic person to help brainstorm and implement new ways to celebrate them.

Are you able to put a little time into helping us show our SCES Staff the appreciation and support they so deserve?

Please contact vicepresident@scespta.org if you're interested in serving as SCES Staff Appreciation Committee Chair (or co-chair, together with a friend!).

Volunteer Translators Needed

We're looking for volunteers who could help the PTA translate our communications into Amharic, Spanish and French. If you or anyone you know would be willing to donate some time and expertise as we try to strengthen our communication across languages in our SCES community, please get in touch.  Email Lisa Ferrugia Atkinson, SCES PTA co-VP, vicepresident@scespta.org.

Select SCES for Amazon Smile Shopping

The holidays are approaching, and chances are you may place at least one or two orders with Amazon. Our school benefits greatly when you select Sligo Creek Elementary School as your AmazonSmile (https://smile.amazon.com/beneficiary.

When you shop on AmazonSmile, the AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5% of the purchase price of eligible products to the charitable organization of your choice. This really adds up to useful funds for our school.

Join AmazonSmile

If you are not already an AmazonSmile member, sign up on your web browser. Simply select your favorite charity to start generating donations, at no cost to you.

Get the App

Download or update to the latest version of the Amazon Shopping app on your phone. You can find it in the App Store for iOS or Google Play for Android.
