Special General Membership Meeting to Consider Budget Amendments

Special General Membership Meeting to Consider Budget Amendments

Thursday, June 16 @ 7 PM

Zoom Meeting

https://zoom.us/j/93121471349?pwd=WEM4emJUR1hkTFpwSWZqNzJBYmtMQT09

Meeting ID: 931 2147 1349

Passcode: SD6q4p

As we enter the final weeks of our school year, the PTA has a budget surplus of $7,500 due in large part to higher than anticipated Salamander Stride contributions (what an amazing problem to have!). We kicked around some ideas for using it during last Tuesday's PTA Meeting. A few suggestions include student aid (scholarships to after-school programs, for example; an onsite food and supply pantry), a science cart, covering additional needs our teachers and staff may have, outdoor classroom support, or a donation to our Education Foundation.

What are your ideas? We're stewards of your contributions to our school, and want to use the funds in a way that feels meaningful to you.

We'd like to hear from you by the end of the day today, Monday, June 13, in order for the PTA to consider all proposals and determine whether and how to amend the budget before the end of the PTA year on June 30. Budget amendments require a general membership vote of the PTA, therefore the PTA Board is calling a special general membership meeting of the PTA on June 16 in order to consider the proposals and potentially vote on budget amendments. The PTA will circulate the collected proposals, possibly along with PTA Board thoughts or recommendations, on June 15.

To summarize:

  • Deadline for proposals to use the budget surplus: Monday, June 13
  • Proposals shared with PTA membership for consideration: Wednesday, June 15
  • Special Membership Meeting to consider/vote on budget amendments: Thursday, June 16

Please email your suggestions for using the surplus (ballpark cost would be helpful if you have a rough estimate to share) to treasurer@scespta.org, president@scespta.org, and communications@scespta.org.

Thank You to Our Outgoing PTA Board Members

Thank you to our dedicated board members and committee chairs moving off the PTA board (in some cases; shifting positions in others):

  • Rick Bacon, PTA President

If you want to see an exceptionally dedicated PTA president, look no further. Rick is at school constantly, talking with building staff, chatting with teachers, bantering with students, generally finding out what people need and doing his best to meet those needs. Those tents covering our students during outdoor lunch to help mitigate the spread of COVID? Rick. That new gaga ball pit? Rick. The video streaming provided at the spring concert this year? Rick. He's an incredible champion to this school, and his service to the PTA and SCES have been remarkable. What an act to follow!

  • Laura Frugé, Treasurer (Laura handed the position over to incoming Treasure Amanda Hill a few weeks ago)

Thank you Laura, for the many hours spent figuring out the books and budget, helping with the book fair, the book share, Back-to-School night, and so many other behind-the-scenes efforts.

  • Jennifer Meyer, VP of Events & Fundraising, Room Parent Chair

Pretty much anything the PTA accomplished this year, Jennifer was involved with making it happen. She gives countless hours making the Back-to-School Social, the Salamander Stride, the Room Parent program, the Book Fair, and pretty much every event this year go off without a hitch and somehow makes it seem easy. AND she's also been subbing at school this year to cover for our teachers when they need to be out!!! AMAZING. We're so grateful to you, Jennifer, and are delighted you're staying on the board as co-VP of Academics.

  • Mary-Margaret Stacy, Salamander Stride Chair

Mary-Margaret Stacy has been chair of the Salamander Stride for as long as I can remember! She brings great organization and total calm and grace under pressure to her role as chair, and will be sorely missed. Until our paths cross at SSIMS, Mary-Margaret! Thank you for your exceptional service to SCES.

  • Brenna Thibault, VP of Communications/Community Outreach

It's been a pleasure serving in this position for the past three years. I've learned from our community and grown through correspondence with you. I look forward to continuing on the board as your PTA president for 2022-2023.

  • Nina Vucenik, Co-VP of Academics, Science Fair Co-Chair

Nina pulled off our first annual STEAM Science Fair with Farah like it was a walk in the park. It was a HUGE success and we're all grateful for the time and thought you gave to your role as co-VP of Academics this year. It's a big job and with kids spread across three different schools, you were beyond generous to take it on.

_______

There's a great joy and also some sacrifice involved with serving the SCES community. That extra time comes from somewhere; it comes from time with family after a long workday, at times; it comes from hours you might otherwise be reading a book, taking a walk or taking a nap (!). It takes up mental space you might give to other things, and resources you might donate elsewhere.

With all of that in mind, a heartfelt thanks to everyone who volunteered time, thoughts, and resources to care for our staff and students in such an exceptional way this school year. Your desire to contribute toward making our school a wonderful place is truly seen and appreciated.
