... and with that, this year is almost a wrap!

Beyond the Numbers

These numbers don't capture everything, particularly the volunteer hours that go into making it all happen.

For Rick Bacon alone, your outgoing PTA president, those hours are probably in the triple digits. Likewise for Jennifer Meyer, our retiring VP of Events and Fundraising (never fear, she's moving into the VP of Academics role!), and Farah Nageer Kanthor (Co-VP of Academics and chair of World Culture Day and co-chair of the Science Fair). Hundreds of volunteer hours go a long way toward making this school such a lovely, special place.

We're grateful to those who served on the PTA Board and as committee chairs this year:

Rick BaconPresident

Emily Bleimund, Wellness Committee Chair

Lisa Ferrugia-Atkinson, Executive VP

Laura Fruge, Treasurer

Amanda Hill, Treasurer

Jeremy Kanthor, GeoBowl chair

Laura Lunardi, Secretary

Jennifer Meyer, VP of Events & Fundraising, Room Parent Chair

Ellen Mowry, Antiracism Committee Chair

Farah Nageer Kanthor, Co-VP of Academics, World Culture Day Chair, Science Fair Co-Chair

Katie Ryan, Staff Appreciation Committee Co-Chair

Joe Shashaty, MCCPTA rep

Tracie Siddiqui, Staff Appreciation Committee Co-Chair

Mary-Margaret Stacy, Salamander Stride Chair

Brenna Thibault, VP of Communications/Community Outreach

Christina Vanderbloemen, Webmaster, Social Media

Nina Vucenik, Co-VP of Academics, Science Fair Co-Chair

Also to Helen Rubiez for working on our social media, and to Birgit Berg for serving as listserv moderator.

To everyone who volunteered time and thoughts and resources to care for our staff and students in such an exceptional way, THANK YOU.

Here's wishing you each a restful summer.

Books and (Picnic) Blanket Night

Wednesday, June 15 @ 5:00 PM

(rain date: Thursday, June 16 @ 5:00 PM)

Sligo Creek Elementary School Playground

Reading by a local author followed by picnic (bring your own) and play!

Following on the heels of the Book Share, we invite you to a community event where Alexandria Scott, a SCES parent and renowned creator of Ditto Kids magazine, an antiracist magazine for children, will read a story from one of their issues.

We invite families to bring their own food and a blanket (or chairs) for an opportunity to spend time with other SCES families after the reading event and the students can enjoy playing together one last time before the end of the school year!

Questions, suggestions, or to join Towards an Antiracist SCES Group: toward-antiracist-sces@googlegroups.com

Congratulations to our Girls on the Run and Let Me Run Participants and Coaches

Both Girls on the Run and Let Me Run SCES teams were supported by active members of the PTA community. Our congratulations to both teams for completing their 5K runs in May!

SCES Book Share - June 7-9

Tomorrow through Thursday we'll support student literacy during the summer months by offering each student the opportunity to select at least two books during the annual SCES Book Share.

Adult volunteers do the best part of the Book Share -- getting delicious books in the hands of our eager (or soon-to-be eager) readers!

There's still time to sign up for a shift: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0B4EAAA722ABF58-sces.

If you have any questions, contact Carrie Callaghan at carrie468@yahoo.com.

Volunteer at Lunch and Recess

Our presence at school is more important than ever, to show support for our students and staff and offer any help we can. Please consider signing up here for at least one more volunteering shift before the year ends. Thank you for your support!

Drinks and Snacks for Staff Lounge

Let's end the year showing our awesome staff how much we appreciate all that they do!

Things are looking pretty sparse right now; we could really use a few donations to stock the lounge as our teachers finish out their school year. Sign-up to contribute goodies to the staff lounge here:
