Winners received a $10 gift card to Dunkin Donuts AND a hand-made Lego necklace made by SCES 4th grader Isis Idiokitas (see image below).  All contest entries are currently displayed in front of the Main Office and on the PTA Bulletin Board at school.

3 days - all of Sligo Creek - 1,000+ books in kids' hands  

Did you know that every year SCES offers a Book Share right before summer break? This June 7-9 we will support student literacy during the summer months by allowing each student the opportunity to select at least two books before the break. Books are in both French and English. The SCES Book Share relies solely on donations and volunteer support.   

What can you do to support the Book Share?  

Donate: Now is a great time to clear off your bookshelves and get those books back into circulation. You can drop them at the donation bins at school or take them to Carrie Callaghan's house near SCES at any time. Email Carrie at carrie468@yahoo.com for the address.   

Collect: You can post a notice on your community listserv asking neighbors to drop donations off at your house or the school.  

Contribute: Book donations are considered tax-deductible contributions to the PTA, so if you are at a thrift shop, yard sale, or used book shop, consider purchasing a few extra books for the Book Share.  

Volunteer: We really need adult volunteers to do the best part of the Book Share -- getting delicious books in the hands of our eager (or soon-to-be eager) readers. A few people have asked what the duties of Book Share volunteers are. Consider yourself a personal shopper, assisting the students in their quest to find just the right book to tickle their interest. A book lover's dream job! It's a lot of fun.

Hoping you had an enjoyable weekend, and are keeping cool in these hot temps.  With the tragedy in Texas last week, our school and our kids weigh on my mind all day, as I'm sure they do for many of you also. Our presence at school is more important than ever, to show support for our students and staff and offer any help we can.

The PTA seeks three volunteers to serve on a financial review committee. The committee will review the books for the PTA as soon as they close in early July, as a second look to make sure things balance and there aren't any discrepancies. It's required by Free State PTA and MCCPTA, and we're grateful if you might consider serving our community in this way. This is a one-time commitment. Please email treasurer@scespta.org if you're able to assist.  

Perhaps you've seen the amazing Field Day photos provided by school parent Amy Taggart, but just in case you missed her posts to the listserv, here they are, along with Amy's message:  

It turns out many of these kids love photos with their friends; a number of them asked how they could access the pictures, so please share if you think your child is one who would like to see the photos. And if you see the same child or children make multiple appearances, it is likely at their request. :-)
