Screen-Free Week logo
National Screen-Free Week, May 2-8

The SCES Wellness Committee invites you and your families to participate in National Screen-Free Week this week!

Have your kids take the pledge and ditch screens for the week (at home; of course, school screens are hard to avoid). Kids can fill out an activity log to document all of the awesome things they did instead of watching screens.

See the official website for more ideas for activities, etc.

https://screenfree.org/

At the end of the week, if you send your pledges and activity logs to Emily Bleimund (ebleimund@gmail.com) we will formally recognize them for their success.

May 4 is National Walk, Bike & Roll to School Day!

The SCES PTA Wellness Committee welcomes students to walk, bike and roll to school on Wednesday. To encourage car-free commuting we will meet at the track at 8:45 AM. We will provide stickers and snacks. Promptly at 9:00 AM we will walk, bike and roll to the canopy. This is before the car circle starts for safety reasons. This will be rain or shine, but canceled if there is thunder or lightning.

If your child has been thinking about walking or biking to school, this is a great opportunity to do it together. Here is a chance to commute with friends and have some fun before school!

In recent years KidsCo has kindly offered to have two staff members take enrolled kids to the track. Feel free to contact them if you are interested in this option.

The emphasis of this event is health, safety and fun! Visit these websites about safety and the national organization and, as always, wear a helmet.

Hope to see you at the track at 8:45 AM on Wednesday!

Volunteer at Lunch and Recess

Make lunch and recess volunteering a part of your spring routine! This is a great way to get to know your student's friends and classmates and our staff. If you've been cleared to volunteer, please consider signing up for a time slot this week:

SCES Book Share Returns in June

The annual SCES Book Share is coming up in June!

The goal of this event is to share gently used or new books with every student at SCES to ensure that everyone has reading materials for the summer. The more books we collect, the more each student can pick out to take home!

Please consider donating any books your student(s) have outgrown to the SCES Book Share. We accept all books in English or French that are appropriate for elementary school children to read to themselves, except:

- Please no books with religious themes.

- Please no board books or picture books.

Chapter books and graphic novels are always very popular and much-needed.

To drop books off at any time, contact Carrie Callaghan at carrie468@yahoo.com for her address (near SCES). We will also place bins under the canopy where you can drop off your gently used books.
