The winter schedule for the Little Scholars After-school Enrichment has been posted, with sign-ups starting on January 7th.

MLK Day of Service

Looking for something to do on MLK Day? Check out MCPS volunteer activities!

Join volunteers across the County who are making a difference in our local community during the MLK Day of Service. Participate in local service projects at various recreation centers on Saturday, Jan. 18, or join us for the annual Day of Service and Volunteer Fair at the Bethesda North Marriott Conference Center on Sunday, Jan. 19. Service projects will include creating "Snow Day" boxes with Meals on Wheels for homebound seniors, assembling hygiene kits and snack bags for unhoused residents, and other efforts to benefit residents and families in Montgomery County.

Stock the staff lounge!

Show your appreciation for our wonderful SCES staff!
Thanks to many of you, we kept the staff lounge stocked with snacks and drinks up through this holiday break. But with school starting back after all of this snow, we need your help to keep it stocked in the coming weeks. 

The easiest way to contribute snacks or coffee is to order off our amazon wish list they’ll be shipped directly to my house. In particular we need snacks (chips, cookies and granola bars). 

If you don’t want to go the Amazon route, just reach out to me directly (amanda.mitchum@gmail.com) and we can figure out a time and place for you to drop off snacks.

Thank you again to everyone who contributed this fall—let’s keep showing our staff how much they mean to us!

New Year! New Lost and Found Updates :)

Volunteers Needed for Lost and Found at SCES again. We need volunteer to help distribute labeled items (available during the school day).  If you have a little time to donate, please contact Bora Haik at bchu02@gmail.com or Elizabeth Oppenheimer elisabeth.oppenheimer@gmail.com.

Please be sure to look for your kiddos lost items, they are waiting for you in the school cafeteria. 

Friendly reminder to label all clothes, jackets, hats, gloves, lunchboxes, and water bottles! The Lost and Found is gathering items faster than ever. Items with a name tag have a higher chance of getting back to their owners. 

MCPS Special Education Resource Fair

The Special Education Resource Fair: Set for 5:30–7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 15 in the auditorium at Carver Educational Services Center, 850 Hungerford Drive in Rockville. 

This event is open to all parents who have children with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). MCPS families can learn more from community organizations about after-school activities, summer programs and tutoring.

MCPS Special Education Citizens Advisory Committee

Attention parents/guardians of students receiving special education services, please attend monthly virtual SECAC meetings. The next meeting is January 23, 2025 at 7:00pm via ZOOM. Connect with other parents/guardians of students with special needs, communicate with special education administrators, and learn about topics of interest.
