Donate Gently Used Books to the Annual SCES Book Share

If you're doing some end-of-year cleaning, please consider donating children's books to the SCES Book Share. We accept all books in English or French that are appropriate for elementary school children to read to themselves, except:

- Please no books with religious themes

- Please no board books or picture books.

To drop books off at any time, contact Carrie Callaghan at carrie468@yahoo.com for her address (near SCES).

"Kids Helping Kids" Food Drive for Manna Food Center

Tomorrow is the final day for food donations for the Kids Helping Kids Food Drive at our school to benefit Manna. Collection boxes are available at the KidsCo Entrance and in front of the Main Office. 

Manna’s most-needed items include:  

  • Grains – instant oatmeal; brown rice; whole-grain pasta.  
  • Proteins – canned tuna, chicken, and salmon in water; natural nut butter; dry or low-sodium canned beans.  
  • Fruits and Veggies – Canned fruit in juice; fruit cups; low-sodium canned vegetables.  
  • Other Healthy Options – Shelf-stable boxed milk; instant formula and baby food; cooking oils and spices. 
Panda Programmer Class added on Tuesdays, 4-6 PM

Panda Programmer added a Tuesday class to their SCES schedule after filling the first to capacity. They offer coding classes with sessions covering Scratch, Python, JavaScript, and Robotics on Mondays and Tuesdays from 4-6 PM.

  • Convenient after-school classes at SCES.
  • For students in grades K to 5.
  • Tuesday classes begin Dec. 7. 
  • No computer experience is necessary, and computers are provided for each student.
  • $219 per session; each session is 6 weeks of classes.
  • Weekly courses are offered all year long. We are Covid-conscious: Wear your mask!
  • Most students re-enroll to continue their learning.
  • Most importantly, KIDS LOVE IT!

Strong Parents Strong Children Support Group

Many of our children have been traumatized by the events of the last 20 months, some more than others, and some by other events. Sheppard Pratt is offering help for parents to help their children. This six-session, Zoom-based support group is open to all, even though the linked flyer names a specific school. 

In this group, you will:

• Learn about common emotional reactions to stress and trauma, and learn strategies to help reduce stress.

• Learn new parenting strategies to help better support your child’s emotional well-being.

• Get support from other parents with similar experiences.

Photo Retakes on Dec. 14

Picture retake day for SCES is Dec. 14. For those with pre-ordered photos who want a retake, send the whole package back on the day of retake and let your teacher know that you would like a retake. If you didn't participate the first time around, simply let your teacher know in advance that your student will attend photo retake day.
