"Kids Helping Kids" Food Drive for Manna Food Center this Month

At least 83,700 of our neighbors in this community are food insecure. (This number, representing 8% of Montgomery County's population, is from 2018 and is projected to jump to more than 13% due to the coronavirus emergency.*)

SCES PTA is organizing the Kids Helping Kids Food Drive at our school to benefit Manna.

Starting now, please send in food donations. Collection boxes will be placed at the KidsCo Front Door Entrance and in the front of the Main Office.

Manna’s most-needed items are listed below:

  • Grains – instant oatmeal; brown rice; whole grain pasta
  • Proteins – canned tuna, chicken, and salmon in water; natural nut butters; dry or low-sodium canned beans
  • Fruits and Veggies – Canned fruit in juice; fruit cups; low-sodium canned vegetables
  • Other Healthy Options – Shelf-stable individual boxed milk; instant formula and baby food; cooking oils and spices

Our Book Fair Starts this WEEK! English and French Books for Sale

The Scholastic / Bonjour Books Book Fair returns to SCES this week! The Fair will take place at the bottom of the grand stairway near the front entrance and outside during school hours. Students attended with their classes today to make a wish list, which they'll bring home so that you can determine what you may want to add to their eWallet to fund their book purchases. Or, you can plan to attend Family Day on Saturday to make purchases in person!

  • The Scholastic Book Fair offers a cash-free payment option called eWallet. It’s a convenient digital account that your student can use for shopping at the Fair.
  • You can shop online at the Scholastic Virtual Book Fair from Nov. 1 - Nov. 14. All orders will ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25.

Visit the Book Fair homepage to learn more and get started with eWallet and online shopping.

Bonjour Books purchases DO NOT run on eWallet. This service is for Scholastic only. Bonjour Book purchases are cash only. You may also shop online or in-person at Bonjour Books and purchases will count towards the SCES Book Fair.

Several volunteer slots are still open.

Keeping the Staff Lounge stocked is a way we can continue to support our amazing staff throughout the year. Big thanks to everyone who has contributed so far!

The Teacher Appreciation Committee prefers that items are dropped off or mailed to Katie's house, so that we can load up our wagon of goodies and bring them in Monday morning. Please contact Katie for the address at katevdk@gmail.com.
