What an AMAZING DAY! Congrats on a GREAT Stride, Sligo Creek.

All of those kiddos who've been waiting for years to show their stuff at the Salamander Stride came out with incredible energy and enthusiasm on Friday!

Mary-Margaret Stacy, who pulls off this event with such thoughtfulness and grace each year, says that "with physical cash/checks from Friday we are only about $1,300 away from our $30,000 goal as of Monday morning!"

Just a reminder...if we meet that goal, the kids get to SILLY STRING Ms. Nesmith!

The Stride couldn't happen without our wonderful community of volunteers. A HUGE thanks to Mary-Margaret Stacy, Chairperson of the Stride; to Jennifer Meyer, VP of Events and Fundraising and all-around maker of all things fun and beautiful; Ian Everett and Jonathon Lunardi, the most organized and professional photographers we've ever had at the Stride (class photos will be shared with teachers this week).

VIP of the Day: Mr. Julian B Brinson III (Mr. B) who somehow maintained the same energy on the microphone from 9:30 AM until 3:30 PM and had us all laughing and cheering the entire time. He's an incredible force of nature.

To the many parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and others who helped set up, clean up, met classes and walked them to the field, made signs and cheered our Salamanders on: you make this event the wonderful day that it is.

My favorite Stride story of 2021:

A student stopped as she was rounding the backstretch of the track, walked over to us, and said, "Thank you so much for being here. I'm working much harder because of all of the people clapping and cheering for me." She was a tiny little person with a big, giant heart.

THAT, right there, is what it's all about.

The Scholastic / Bonjour Books Book Fair is returning to SCES the first week of November! The Fair will take place at the bottom the grand stairway near the front entrance and outside during school hours. As always, all purchases will benefit our school.

  • The Scholastic Book Fair will offer a cash-free payment option called eWallet. It’s a convenient digital account that your student can use for shopping at the Fair. Grandparents, friends, and others can contribute, too!
  • You can shop online at the Virtual Book Fair from Nov. 1 - Nov. 14. All orders will ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25.

Visit the Book Fair homepage to learn more and get started with eWallet and online shopping (begins Nov. 1).
