Opt-In to Covid Testing

SCES did not have enough consent forms to submit samples for COVID-19 testing last week. The school will resume testing on Friday, April 23.

If you already turned in a consent form for your student, you are not required to turn in a second one. Families who wish to opt-in to testing should complete the form. Click on the appropriate link below to access the English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Chinese, or Amharic documents.

We've requested that SCES send hard copies home with students to return with signature. For now, however, you'll need to fill out the form and email it to Ms. Terry at Vanessa_L_Terry@mcpsmd.org.

MCCPTA 2021 Resolution on SROs

On April 7, MCCPTA adopted a resolution regarding School Resource Officers (SROs)Montgomery County Police Officers assigned to high school campuses and certain other schools.  A draft of the resolution, which generally advocated for the removal of SROs from MCPS campuses and a re-imagining of the program, was reviewed by our Towards an Anti-Racist SCES committee, who firmly supported it. This was echoed in an informal poll at our PTA meeting in early March.

Resolution

Press Release

SCES MCCPTA representative Joe Shashaty stated, "...it is my sincere hope that the result of this resolution, which will be put to MCPS, the Board of Education, the Montgomery County Council and others, is a school environment that is safe, welcoming and fair to all students and families. I feel that the adopted resolution has that aim, and I hope that the leadership audience to whom it is presented will work to achieve it."

World Culture Day is a GO!

We're thrilled to announce that World Culture Day will take place via Zoom on Friday, June 4th from 2:00-2:45 PM.

We need volunteers to make this happen!

Our ambassadors (you!) will bring different countries and cultures into the Zoom classroom to share 5-10 minute long presentations.

Think about activities that translate well to a virtual setting, such as:

  • Teach a simple dance;
  • Help students learn a few words in a new language;
  • Cook a simple, traditional dish and share the recipe;
  • Lead a coloring activity of the country’s flag or map;
  • Share music or artwork;
  • Focus on an interesting geographic element;
  • Discuss the animal or plant life unique to your region.

This should be fun for volunteers and students alike. We hope that everyone will walk away with a new nugget of information and an appreciation for a different country or culture.
