Toward an Antiracist SCES 3rd-5th Grade Student/Parent Survey

The parent-led group, Toward an Anti-Racist Sligo Creek Elementary School, is committed to move our school community along a specific anti-racist continuum. One of the most important early steps is to understand how students and parents in the SCES perceive the climate in the school community.

We have created surveys for parents as well as for students in grades 3-5. We are asking all parents to help make sure they and their children in grades 3-5 complete the survey. Parent surveys are available in English, Spanish, French, and Amharic. Student surveys are available in English, French, and Spanish.

Please know we will be collecting these data anonymously, in order to make recommendations and decisions regarding the school's curriculum and policy, and to advocate on behalf of students and families like yours. Your individual responses will not be shared with the school, or with any other third parties.

Here are the links to the surveys:

SCES Material Distribution for 3rd Quarter

The initial distribution of third quarter school materials will be next Wednesday, February 3.  Pick-up is from 9:00 am - 3:30 pm.

SCES will distribute Academy materials to the side of the school, by the cafeteria. French Immersion materials will be issued in the car circle.

MCPS HS Student-Led Groups Offering Free Virtual/Remote Tutoring to K-8 Students

MCPS High School student-led groups are providing free virtual tutoring to K-8 students across the county. These student tutors have either an MCPS faculty or non-profit SSL sponsor and have been through a formal interview process. Tutors have also taken the MCPS Volunteers and Contractors: Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect, online training course.

Many of these student-led groups have posted their services on a platform called Kiddo (https://www.kiddo.us/), which provides families looking for free learning support a single place to search and register for those services.

Families can also contact the student-led tutoring services directly:

Stepping Stone Tutoring- Led by Montgomery Blair HS students: https://www.steppingstonetutoring.org/

Montgomery County Virtual Tutoring Project- Led by Clarksburg HS students:  https://sites.google.com/view/moco-virtual-tutoring/home?authuser=0

NOTE: the student-led programs operate independent registration sites, but have joined this central platform. Kiddo is a local Montgomery County startup that is completely free to use for all families and service providers. It was built with the intention of being a central space for families and local enrichment service providers to connect, with a core social mission around driving extracurricular programming accessibility to underserved communities.

Should you have any questions please feel free to contact ssl@mccpta.org.

School Reopening Plan

On January 12, the Board of Education met to determine if health metrics could be met by February 1 for a safe return to in-person learning.
